Kenana Knitters is about more than toys — it’s about people, purpose, and community.
This thoughtful process preserves cultural traditions while supporting families and strengthening communities. Through sustainability, craftsmanship, and empowerment, Kenana creates more than beautiful toys — it weaves opportunity, resilience, and hope into every stitch.
At the heart of every Kenana piece is a commitment to sustainability. Locally sourced, homespun wool and organic cotton are carefully selected and hand-cleaned, minimising environmental impact while honouring nature’s integrity.
Kenana uses plant-based or AZO-free dyes, avoiding harmful chemicals. This ensures rich, lasting colour that is gentle on the environment and safe for the children who play with our toys.
Raw fibres are spun into yarn by skilled women in the local community, using time-honoured techniques passed down through generations — preserving craft and creating livelihoods.
Each toy is hand-knitted with care and individuality. A handwritten tag bears the maker’s name, celebrating the woman behind the craft and the personal story stitched into every piece.
Kenana Knitters was founded to create meaningful, long-term impact for women in rural Kenya. Women are taught traditional knitting and spinning skills, enabling them to earn a fair, reliable income in a safe, family-friendly environment while caring for their families.
Today, Kenana supports 580 registered knitters, with 430 active artisans and over 200 spinners, sharing their work with families across the world.
We proudly partner with Kenana Knitters to ensure fair wages, safe working conditions, and flexible work. Proceeds from every purchase support healthcare, literacy, and food security initiatives within the community — providing support without judgment or barriers.
